| Zelg Galesic - The Next Croatian Sensation? |
|
Zelg galesic is one of Croatias top MMA Stars out there today, he tore his way through the UK’s Cage Rage Middleweight Division with impressive victories over the likes of Curtis Stout and Mark Wier and has since fought in Japan in Pride FC and most recently the K-1 Heros MMA Promotion. I had chance to catch up with Zelg and find out the latest news from the horses mouth! Craig: Hi Zelg, thanks for taking the time out to talk, how are things going? Zelg: All good thanks, I am training hard as always! Craig: For the UK fans out there tell us a bit about yourself, your background and how you got involved in Mixed Martial Arts. Zelg: I started training in Martial Arts as a young kid and got involved in competitions pretty much straight away. After competing in various disciplines at both amateur and professional levels I decided to move into MMA as I wanted to develop other skills. I did well in amateur events and was approached to go professional, which I did and haven’t looked back since! Craig: Last time I saw you fight was in back in October, 2007 in K1 - Heros against Taiei Kin, what are your plans for this year? Are you still signed with K1 -Heros, if so when can we expect to see you in action!!!!!
Zelg: I am signed with a new Mega-Organisation called DREAM and I expect to be in action in the very near future! Craig: How do you like Japan? Seems the fans have really taken to you there. Zelg: I love Japan. I always wanted to go to Japan as a little kid. I have enjoyed my time there very much, each time I have visited I have been made very welcome. I am even attempting to learn the Japanese language! Craig: Any plans to fight in the UK again? You had some great fights in Cage Rage and I'm sure the UK audience would love to see you again. Zelg: Cage rage is my second home, I feel great there. The organization is fantastic and I have made some great friends there, from the fighters to the promoters. I hope I will fight there again one day. Craig: Last time I saw you, you were training in Thailand with James Thompson, that was about 18 months ago or more at Bangkok Fight Club! James has since moved onto Xtreme Couture, where are you currently training (which camp) who with and how is that working out? Zelg: I am still working with Trojan Free Fighters and I have opened my own branch of the camp in my home town in Croatia. I am doing most of my preparation with various personal coaches in all the necessary disciplines. Craig: Who are your top 3 personal favourite fighters out there at the moment and what do you like about them?
Zelg:
Zelg: I would like to rematch with Takimoto as I am sure I would beat him this time around (Zelg lost to Takimoto at Pride 34 by kimura) Craig: How do you prepare to "make weight" for a fight? What is your training and diet schedule leading up to a fight? Zelg: Baby food, Sci Supplements and training 2 or 3 times a day and of course the sauna is rather helpful! Craig: OK, Zelg thanks for taking the time out to talk, is there anyone out there you would like to say hello to or give a mention? You are welcome. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me and supported me with my training and preparations and also my sponsors: MMA Universe and SCI MX, Thanks you! |
