Would you consider it a pain associated with a strain or pull or cramping in the muscles or is it a pain associated with the structure Ie bones (sublaxation)? either way start out with an anti-imflamatory like advil. Until I get more history.

Epidural shot did not help me either and the sciatica is the worse pain- I understand believe me. I have four herniated discs so surgery is not an option for me as I each level would not be able to support the other level. Have you taken steroids? That helped me for a little while but had many side effects I did not like. Physical therapy helped me get into an exercise regimen when the last thing I wanted was to exercise. I lost a little bit of weight and that also helped. Recovery is different for everyone but personally with my four disc herniation and my spinal condition of spinal stenosis, I had the sciatica for about six months and then pain for another six months and today (three years later) I never feel the sciatica and I hardly ever feel pain. My main culprit in preventing my recovery I believe was smoking-which robs you of essential nutrients needed to keep those discs strong. There is a great medication out that works very well for nerve pain and you should ask your orthopedic doctor to see if you are a candidate for wellbutrin, which largely used as an antidepressant can work wonders for your nerve pain. How long ago was your herniation diagnosed? Waiting is rough but if you smoke-quit, if you can afford to lose some weight-do so, and go to physical therapy, especially work on strengthening your abdominal muscles because that can really help support your lower back and prevent any further injury.
