My buddy was telling me about a story at one of his gyms, where one of the personal trainers was performing a deadlift and shortly after that suffered from a brain anuerism only to wind up as a vegetable now. I also remember reading a year or two back about another story like this, and im curious how big a potential danger is this when it comes to lifting? Thanks

so is this something i should be worried about while i persue bodybuilding? or should i just remember to breathe? is there something that triggers this (like not breathing correctly?). thanks it just seems weird a personal trainer would have a problem such as this.

As swellin said, same thing could happen by something simple.. not saying its impossible, just very unlikely. I wouldnt worry about it dude. Think of all the people that do deadlifts n how many has this happend to? There was probably more too it than just the deadlift anyways.

Holding ones breath (valsalva maneuver) is generally not recommended as this will rise your blood pressure. Excessive b/p is a one of the causes for anerisms. Although, some well trained lifters may do variations of this for more power is certain lifts.
He may of had existing symptoms such as frequent head aches, eye pain, stiff neck or experiencing no adverse symptoms. The latter is more often the case as people who get them have no idea. If there is any family related history or anyone is having symptoms after they lift then a CAT scan can be done in which they inject a blue dye and monitor the vessels. |

i believe i read somewhere that inadequate carbohydrate replacement after working out, or missing meals before can cause your blood pressure to drop thus decreasing the blood flow to the brain.. which id imagine can cause a headache lol. I could be wrong, but are there any changes in your diet/meals by chance?
