Not a straight-out contest prep question but hey..

For myself i go with 12-13 calories per lb of bodymass.

This is the quick and easy way to go about it.

It isn't 100% accurate... and it doesn't factor extremes in activity in.

...and isn't suitable for very fat individuals.

Since i don't get very fat offseason... it's a good per lb estimate for me.

It's what i have used personally... and it's been supported by others such as Tom Venuto:

Thread: "How many calories do i need?"

For you though...or rather for someone who hasn't dieted for a contest before, you may be better served by calculating your TDEE via the Katch-McArdle formula.

I find estimates based on lean body mass to be most applicable.

At the end of the day though.. everything is an estimate.

In applicability...nothing beats trying something and critically assessing whether it works or fails.
