The sports of Bodybuilding and Strongman will always be eternally linked as we both want to get bigger muscles! BB's so they look great SM so they work well! A lot of bodybuilders move over to strongmen after there competing days are over so they can train differently and can finally throw the diet sheet out of the window! BB's who are strong become monsters when they give up the restrictive diet and eat pretty much what they want. The increase in calories give them new found strength and the less reps more weight training philosophy of the strongman boosts most bb's already impressive lifts. For example Glenn Ross was a cut to ribbons BB before he started SM! Eddie Ellwood pretty much retained his cut physique during his strongman career and was a sensation in the SM scene in a very short while. Another immensely strongman who made the jump was Stumpy Raines who although gained weight kept his BB physique. There seems to be 2 trains of thought at the moment in Strongman, fit and fast (IFSA) culminating the Britain's Strongest Man and all out heavy (UK Strength Council) culminating in the UK's Strongest Man. Which gives you choice of which type you are better at! The sport of Strongman is where it is today because of the tireless work done by the likes of David Webster, Dougie Edmunds, Geoff Capes, Jamie Reeves, Gary Taylor, Glenn Ross and the band of promoters countrywide who put shows on for all to compete at. I just hope we don't see our sport ruined by politics! In the next issue we will compare the diets of a competitive bb and strongman for some shock surprises! Please right in or email me on any strength/SM subject. Don't forget if you have trouble with your weight and cant lose it, be a strongman and make it work for you! P.S. I've got a six-pack, its just that I've lost that plastic thing that holds them all together!!! www.ukstrongman.com |
